I took my kids out the see the new Star Wars movie. And it was fun. I had a great time with the Kids. They loved it.

Lucas has definitely taken the franchise to a new level: Kid Entertainment. He did it with Phantom, but put in on back burner for Attack of the Clones. He revisited it again for a short while when he did the cartoons for Cartoon Network (also called Clone Wars), but then Revenge of the Sith was back to darkness.

I believe that he was happy making cartoon shorts (and probably found it profitable), because he has another 100 or so half hour episodes lined up for the next couple of years. And if the movie is any indication to the new series, they will definitely be more kid friendly.

The movie had a simple plot, shallow character development, and a bunch of silly jokes and situations. For instance: Anikin now has a Padawan, who happens to be a Youngling trying to make in the grown up world of Jedi’s (a concept that a kid can relate to… well not the Jedi part, but growing up).

That’s where all the bad reviews come from. I think some people were expecting too much. I think they were expecting something like Attack of the Clones, or Revenge of the Sith. And they were disappointed. Because it’s not a movie. It’s a cartoon. It was an afterthought. Lucas was watching the half hour episodes on a huge screen and thought “This would be great in a movie theater… lets do it!”. So you end up with a cartoon meant for TV, meant for KIDS, put on a huge screen, with an expensive price tag. Unfortunately, the large screen really shows the poor production value in the show, because it was never meant to me a movie, like Attack of the Clones.

But what it does do is it keeps the IDEA, the DREAM, of Star Wars alive for a whole new generation. I was 7 years old when I first saw Star War in a drive thru theater. Ever since then, the passion has never died. It is part of who I am. And Lucas has managed to keep it alive long enough for my kids to feel that same passion. And because of that, we have a special bond. Especially with Max. He loves Star Wars. He lives and breathes Star Wars. I haven’t let him watch Revenge of the Sith, yet, because of the dark content, but I told him that we can watch it on his birthday. He can hardly wait. And the timing is perfect with the new movie and the original cartoon series already being viewed. So the passion is still alive. I can relate to his excitement, I was there.

And for those reasons, the new Star Wars movie is the best movie of the year! Dark Knight was awesome, as well. But it’s not appropriate for the kids yet, so it’s only second best for now.

Real simple: I upgraded WordPress, the Content Management System software that runs this site. Sure, WordPress is really a blogging software, but it’s still a CMS. After I upgraded, my theme was no longer compatible with all the new features in WordPress. So, I went to the original developer of the theme and upgraded that, as well.

That’s when it all fell apart. I had made tons of little “tweaks” to that original theme that, when in it’s initial state, it looked nothing like what I had before the upgrade.

So, instead of spending hours “re-tweaking” a theme, I had decided to go for the minimalist approach. And here you have it. Simple, yet just as effective in presenting the Content, which is really the important stuff.

I’m also taking a different approach to filling out the content on this site. I’ll simply be writing on subjects related to the game in the form of blog posts. You know… as the come out of my head (in that nice chaotic fashion… systematic, but chaotic). It’ll be out there for you all to read, comment, and question if none it makes sense, because you know, it all makes sense in my head. You’ll notice that I have already started this in some of the previous posts. Some are a bit back dated as they were drafts that I never “published”. Once I iron out the final details on the various subjects, I will then post them as “Pages” (the list on the left of this web page)

As far as re-starting the campaign (the new campaign), hopefully we will soon. We can start discussing new characters in the next Dark Eons session.

Oh, and it will be an evil campaign… something different, as a compliment to Dark Eons.
Once the players heard this, they no longer want the play the same characters converted to the new system (because they were to similar to there characters in the Dark Eons campaign using the same system… go figure).

Now the players are creating new characters as I iron out the finishing details on the Magic system to be used.

Who knows when we will get started again.

Still working on the interface. I just added a feature to the comments section of all post/pages. You now can reply to either the post/page or to a comment on that post/page. In other words… Threaded Comments. Those of you who do a lot of forums know what threading is about. Plus, that is one of the things I really liked about LiveJournal blogs.

So I had to have it. So, thanks to Brian Meidell and his WordPress plugin Threaded Comments, I do have it. It needed some tweaking because the plugin was meant for a theme that was based on a white background. But once that was done, it works great.

Next… Avatars, yet another great feature from Live Journal, and Forums in general. I found a plugin, but again, it requires some tweaking (mainly because it doesn’t do exactly what I want it to, and I anal like that).

I will have some updates on the content, soon. I promise. Once I get the interface working that way I want it to. Yeah. Right.
